SSND Corporate Stance: Gospel Nonviolence and Just Peace

November 6, 2019 – As School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) committed to a more just and peaceful world, we are called to take a clear stand for creative and active nonviolence and against all forms of violence. We recognize that peace requires justice and justice requires peacemaking. We are being called to pray, speak out, advocate, educate and take decisive action. New focus for SSND ministries

November 6, 2019 – The School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) have responded to urgent needs in their communities for 186 years. These needs have evolved into a variety of ministries centered on educating women, children, the poor and communities. As stated in the SSND Constitution, You Are Sent, “Urged by the love of Christ, we choose to express our mission through ministry directed toward education. Responding to varying needs, we engage in a diversity of ministries, specific services through which we work for the enablement of [the] person.” Sisters may no longer manage day-to-day operations in many ministries, yet they continue their sponsorship, leadership and service as the torch is passed to laity who continue to embrace the mission, heritage and charism of SSND. Sisters reflect on their time in El Paso, Texas

November 6, 2019 – In the fall of 2018, the Catholic Diocese of El Paso, Texas, asked for volunteers to help with the arrival of immigrants. The School Sisters of Notre Dame answered this call. For over a year, sisters have been going to El Paso to help in any way they can. From cleaning to cooking, organizing, shopping or making phone calls, they are happy to help. Not many of the sisters speak the two common languages - Spanish or Portuguese - that are heard in the centers, yet they continue to volunteer and have a positive impact.
