Commitment and Resources

As a Laudato Si' Congregation, SSNDCP embarks on year two of a seven-year journey toward an integral ecology. The 2024 Central Pacific (CP) Province Laudato Si’ Action Plan (LSAP) reflects existing SSND values and priorities rooted in You Are Sent and Love Gives Everything, as well as our desire to respond proactively and creatively to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.

Laudato Si' goals (PDF)

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Being mindful of our consumption. (Laudato Si’ Goals (LSG) 1 - 4)
  • Enjoy meatless meals frequently – Being mindful of our food choices. (LSG 1 - 4)
  • Choose and advocate for alternatives to single use plastic – Being mindful of alternatives. (LSG 1,3,4)
  • Educate, advocate and act in support of our SSND LSAP commitment – Being mindful of our responsibility to engage others. (LSG 1,2,5,7). Resources for engagement will be shared via the weekly province announcements, the Shalom News North America monthly newsletter, Shalom Action Alerts, and other sources.
  • Support fulfillment of our Laudato Si commitment in prayer – Being mindful we are one Earth community because of God’s loving presence in every being. (LSG 1-7, but especially 6)

Departments/Ministries

  • Incorporate SSND LSAP commitment into existing goal-setting processes going forward. (LSG 1-6)
  • Reflect our commitment to sustainable living practices in meeting and event planning through venue selection, the way the prayer and program is organized, the food and drink that is chosen and provided, including a vegetarian option, carbon footprint calculation and appropriate remediation. Provide a summary of the actions taken with participants to raise awareness and promote accountability. (LSG 1-6)
  • Encourage residential and ministry partner organizations to embrace or support SSND LSAP commitment. (LSG 7)
