A Rabbi, a professor, a police chief and an attorney walk into a room

A Rabbi, a professor, a police chief and an attorney walk into a room…and peace broke out! Learn more about Women as Peacemakers in a Fractured World of Violence during the 2024 Women’s Leadership Luncheons this March. Each luncheon focuses on the unique impact women are making in their communities, and how this work is inspiring others to do the same.

Women's Leadership Luncheon topic for 2023 was “Maintaining Good Mental Health While Living with Uncertainty,” by speaker Louise Blissenbach Stemp. The event was held at the Mendakota Country Club on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

This year’s luncheons feature Rabbi Susan Talve, Central Reform Congregation and founder and Chief Executive Officer, Ashrei Foundation, St. Louis; Mary E. Triggiano, a professor of Law at Marquette University Law School and Director of the Marquette University Andrew Center for Restorative Justice, Milwaukee; District Chief Stacy Murphy of the Saint Paul Police Department, Western District in St. Paul, Minnesota; and Allenna Bangs, Deputy Criminal Division Chief, Tarrant County District Attorney's Office, Fort Worth, Texas.

“The School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) started the Women’s Leadership Luncheons in the late 1990s as a way to recognize the unique contributions of women in our world,” said Sister Debra Marie Sciano, provincial leader. “This year we have an amazing group of women eager to share their role as Women Peacemakers.”

Sister Debra shared, “SSND strive to create a global community where human dignity is respected, all creation is treasured, spirituality is nourished and justice is accomplished as part of our mission to show God’s love to the world.”

This commitment is reflected in the work of the Shalom – Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation ministry. Shalom is the Hebrew word for Peace. Shalom is also the word SSND use to describe their international network for justice, peace and integrity of creation.

Women's Leadership Luncheon topic for 2023 was “Maintaining Good Mental Health While Living with Uncertainty,” by speaker Louise Blissenbach Stemp. The event was held at the Mendakota Country Club on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

“More than 2,500 sisters, associates and friends of SSND across five continents make up the Shalom Network,” said Sister Debra. “In the Central Pacific Province, five areas of particular focus include Care of Creation, Immigration and Refugees, Human Trafficking, Gospel Nonviolence and Just Peace, and Racial Justice. The Women’s Leadership Luncheons highlight the good work women are doing. In turn, participants rise to the occasion to bridge a path forward together,” said Sister Debra.

“Women’s Leadership Luncheon attendees can expect to go home inspired with a passion to bring change within themselves and others,” said Sister Debra. “As a result of our luncheons, relationships are formed and strengthened between SSND and the wider communities. Join us this year and be a part of the celebration of Women as Peacemakers in our community.”
