“Graced Leadership: Women’s Unique Response to Urgent Needs”

Featured Speaker: Mayra J. Thompson, M.D. FACOG
Obstetrics and Gynecology, Private Practice

The 2022 Women’s Leadership Luncheons feature courageous, compassionate women role models. Mayra J. Thompson, M.D., is the featured speaker for the Dallas luncheon. Mayra J. Thompson, M.D. FACOG, is a professor of obstetrics and gynecology. She specializes in general gynecology, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery. Dr. Thompson is trained and certified in advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures. She has lectured and taught locally and nationally on the minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Thompson obtained her bachelor of arts in economics from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, a doctorate in medicine from the University of Illinois School of Medicine, Chicago and completed her internship and residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Illinois Hospital at University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago.

She is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. She began her private practice in 1984. She was recruited to serve as professor of obstetrics and gynecology at University of Texas Southwestern, where she practiced at the university affiliated hospitals and institutions, seeing private patients at the Lowe Foundation Center for Women’s Preventative Health Care from 2004-2021.

Dr. Thompson’s interest in the health and welfare of women has prompted her to seek promotion of the benefits of preventative care in women of all ages. She is also an advocate of the special needs adults and children since she and her husband are parents of a son with special needs. She has been a featured speaker for women’s groups. Dr. Thompson speaks fluent Spanish and has a special interest in the health care needs of the Hispanic community.
