Commemoration of Blessed Theresa’s feast day in Guam

As the school year for Notre Dame High School (ND) in Talofofo, Guam, comes to its end in May, one of the last holidays that is celebrated is commonly known to the school community as ND Day. This day is much more than a holiday for our school community. It is a day for us to celebrate Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger, our Foundress, who laid the foundation and charism when School Sisters of Notre Dame came to the shores of Guam on August 10, 1949.

Sister Suzanne Moynihan is passionate about Care of Creation and thus joined the recently formed Laudato Si’ Care of Creation Committee. Her goal is to ensure the Central Pacific Province fulfills the seven-year commitment goals set by the Laudato Si’ Action Platform. When asked to share her passion, she wrote, “Emboldened by Divine Grace, together, we can lessen the harmful effects of global warming. We can create conversations about how climate change has affected us locally and thus inspire each other to act. We can, can’t we?”

Associate co-director reflects on connections

Sister Kathy Schmittgens became the co-director of the School Sisters of Notre Dame Central Pacific Province associates. She is all too happy to take on this role with co-director and long-time friend, Anne Carey. Sister Kathy shared, “I believe we have a responsibility to share our spiritual patrimony, so Blessed Theresa’s vision continues to strive for unity in our broken and beautiful world. So, I joined Anne as co-director of associates in October 2021.”
