Launching Season 2 of our podcast

Called to Action: A School Sisters of Notre Dame Central Pacific Province Podcast officially launched a new season, January 5, 2022. During Season 2, the co-hosts, Sister Anna Marie Reha, provincial councilor, and Kaitlyn Holdmeyer, communications manager, explore the theme Gospel Nonviolence and Just Peace with sisters, colleagues and associates. Listen to the first episode of Season 2 and catch up on Season 1 now. A new episode will be released every other Wednesday with the last day being May 4, 2022.

Laudato Si’, a seven-year commitment for SSND

Last year, the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) were invited to become a Laudato Si’ Congregation. This means SSND agree to embark on a seven-year journey towards living more simply, responsibly and sustainably. As well as to educate, advocate and act in collaboration with others for the dignity of life and the care of all creation. Tim Dewane, director of the Central Pacific Province Shalom-JPIC, explains the seven-year commitment and the seven Laudato Si’ goals SSND will be striving towards.

In gratitude for service to the church

Throughout 53 years of service, Sister Marianne Kempa has worked extensively in both the field of Catholic education and in parish ministry. She recently became the fourth SSND sister to receive the Vatican II Award and the first to receive it in the Service to the Church category in service to the Archdioceses of Milwaukee.

Reflection on border experience

As winter approaches, the intense heat of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, in July seems a distant memory to Sister Stephanie Spandl. She shared in her reflection, “but the memories of the stories I heard and the people I met remain vivid and alive in my heart – a living, contemporary image of the Holy Family’s desperate flight into Egypt. Situated in the midst of the Chihuahuan desert, these border cities are at the center of an ongoing humanitarian challenge.”
