The School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) charism continues to evolve through vowed commitment for mission, a culture of vocations, sharing the deep SSND story as it meets the needs of the times and assisting others to discern their response to God’s call. And how does the Vocations team do this? They have embraced the foundress, Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger’s quote, “God’s cause is the only concern of our hearts.”

| The SSND farm at Elm Grove |

Mother Caroline Friess, Commissary Generalate of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) in North America, bought property in Elm Grove, Wisconsin, to establish an orphanage, but she also planned to use the property as a farm that could provide food. The venture started small in 1863, but by the 1920s, the farm was producing large quantities of vegetables, fruit, dairy products, honey and meat. Michele Levandoski, archivist for the School Sisters of Notre Dame North American Archives shares the history.

| Technology becomes a gift – 2021 Jubilee celebration |
|
Each year, our Jubilarians participate in a day of reflection, as a sacred way to begin their Jubilee year. Due to COVID-19, the Jubilarians were not able to meet face-to-face for their initial gathering in 2020, so the day took place virtually. As much as they missed being together in-person, technology provided them the unique gift of being with Jubilarians from all corners of the Central Pacific Province.
