God is with us in our common journey

The School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) believe that God is with us in our common journey. However, there are many uncertainties Sister Helen Jane Jaeb shared, “Yet SSND know we are being cared for and our ministries will carry on the vision and mission of SSND for which our foundress, Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger, was called by God. We know that God is still calling us to trust in this vision. We are grateful for all of you who are in our lives and that the legacy of SSND to care for others and for all creation will continue into the future.”

Provincial leader reflects on 10 years

On June 12, 2021, the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) Central Pacific Province (CP) celebrates its 10th anniversary. This celebration marks 10 years since the Dallas, Mankato (Minnesota) Milwaukee and St. Louis Provinces came together as one, a decision based on the hope for a brighter future through shared resources. On a personal level, Sister Debra Sciano, provincial leader, talks about the final days of becoming the CP Province, “I remember being on an emotional roller coaster – from excitement to sadness and from elation to worry about the future.”

Nun versus sister, is there a difference?

Often times you hear or see the terms nun or sister used interchangeably. Sister Adaire Lassonde shares her thoughts on the difference in terms, “We say we had nuns/sisters for our education, or we are going to visit my aunt who is a nun/sister.” However, there is a difference between the two terms. The School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) would be considered sisters based on the definition.
