Sisters, donors and staff recently attended the dedication of the School Sisters of Notre Dame North American Archives to personally see the collection documenting this extraordinary history.

The relevancy of “Aging with Grace” for today’s college students

Dr. Kristen Abbott-Anderson, Assistant Professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato, has assigned the book “Aging with Grace” to her class in order to increase her students’ understanding of Alzheimer’s. In 1986, Dr. David Snowdon, one of the world’s leading experts on Alzheimer’s, embarked on a scientific study that would change the way we view aging and, ultimately, living. Dubbed the “Nun Study,” his research involved a unique population of 678 School Sisters of Notre Dame, ranging in age from 74 to 106, whose dedication to serving others may help all of us live longer and healthier lives.

A mission that resonates

Chef John Folse began making gourmet meals for SSND special events after a fellow co-worker, Chef Warren LeRuth’s health began to fail. For John, the sisters’ mission resonated with him, “I came to realize that the School Sisters of Notre Dame devote their entire lives to the Church and to the special causes that they choose,” said John. “Once you experience what happens in these exceptional places, you cannot help but continue to be a part of it.”
