December offers opportunities to reflect on the gifts of our Latino immigrant sisters and brothers, and the challenges they face. On December 12 we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas and her appearances to Juan Diego. The miracle of abundant roses growing in December with Mary’s image on Juan Diego’s cloak convinced the Bishop of Mary’s message and request.

The United Nations' (UN) International Migrants Day is annually held on December 18 to recognize the efforts, contributions and rights of migrants worldwide.

The Posadas, the nine-day celebrations on December 16-24, re-enact Mary and Joseph's search for a place to stay in Bethlehem.

The Sacred Image--Directly on The Mantle of Juan Diego, this rough, burlap-like material, is the exquisitely delicate figure of Our Lady, four feet, eight inches in height. This authentic portrait of the Virgin Mary has remained fresh for nearly five centuries and may be viewed at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
