Experience Together

Collaborating for Change

More than five years ago, School Sisters of Notre Dame “focused on connecting groups” and “agreed on the priority of working with girls.” The sisters invited students from Notre Dame High School and Hancock Place High School to participate in the Lemay Leadership Project. One of the outcomes of this project was concern about the corner of Broadway and West / East Ripa Ave. Notre Dame is located on East Ripa; Hancock is on West Ripa.

After investigation, research and meetings, the “Educational Plaza” emerged. Community partners joined together for the recent Lemay Plaza Groundbreaking. The Lemay Plaza will stand as a monument to education for years to come. The group worked with the St. Louis County Economic Council with funding from the Port Authority to make this project a reality. Construction is expected to be completed this summer. Congratulations to the students, some of whom are in college now, for their collaborative work on this exciting project.
