Celebrating 180 Years

Today School Sisters of Notre Dame in Africa, Asia, Europe North, Central and South America are profoundly affected and challenged by the many divisions in the world and church, and by the social, economic and ecological crises of our times.

As an international congregation of apostolic women religious, sisters are called and sent to address these divisions and crises with audacity and hope. In fidelity to their charism of unity in diversity, they commit to:

Embrace dialogue as a way of life that leads to new discoveries about themselves and others and to conversion, reconciliation, and healing;

Live more simply, responsibly and sustainably with one another and with all of creation;

Intensify efforts to witness to unity in a divided world by holding all in common;

Direct their resources and ministries toward education that transforms and calls all to eliminate the root causes of injustice;

Deepen the contemplative and prophetic dimensions of their lives by grounding who they are and all they do in the love of the Triune God.

Sister Gen Cassani’s explanation of the design:  "It is my intent to show a vision of a world already ONE, set in a universe of wholeness, oneness, interrelatedness and beauty.  I have chosen a watercolor image of a world without boundaries to challenge our hearts to LOVE in an inclusive, boundary-less kind of way, the way Jesus loved.  To see the world with LOVE, the world as we know it can be, will, I hope, motivate us to address the divisions and crises with the colorful and positive qualities of audacity and hope."
