Celebrating 185 years of ministry

“Our goal is God because he alone is the reason for our existence.”

-Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger
Letter #5226, 1877

To celebrate the 185th anniversary of the founding of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the Central Pacific Province, Atlantic-Midwest Province and the Province of Africa developed a video featuring the poem, “Mother Theresa: Her Blessing” by Sister Maura Eichner, and photos from all three provinces.

Sister Sylvia Provost Teaching at RedemptoristAs the School Sisters of Notre Dame celebrate the 185th anniversary of their founding, they continue to faithfully follow in the footsteps of Blessed Theresa, their foundress, who sought God in all things. Join SSNDs in prayer this October, as they celebrate their 185th anniversary on Foundation Day.

The congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame was founded on October 24, 1833, when Blessed Theresa and two other women began a common religious life in Bavaria in present-day Germany. This new congregation came to life in response to God’s call to address social needs of the times through the education of girls.

The School Sisters of Notre Dame began as educators and continue as educators. Now located throughout the world, SSNDs serve in a variety of ministries, grounded in the concept of transforming the world through education in the broadest sense.
