Beyond Living Side by Side: Interculturality and the Future of Community
Milwaukee is a city of remarkable diversity, but diversity alone does not create community. In a time marked by polarization, loneliness, and misunderstanding, we face an important question: How do we move beyond living alongside one another to genuinely living with one another?
Dr. Gendron will explore interculturality as a way of fostering deeper human connections across differences of race, ethnicity, language, religion, generation, and life experience. Drawing on examples from education, community life, and the history of women leaders, she will discuss why intercultural understanding is essential for addressing many of the challenges facing our city, country, and world today. Dr Gendron will also invite the audience to reflect on how the School Sisters of Notre Dame’s commitment to education, human dignity, and justice offers a powerful model for building communities of encounter and belonging.
