2027 luncheon theme is a celebration of Interculturality

Sticky

September 2, 2026 – “We have always been an international congregation, located all over the world, on five continents, and we have embraced our multicultural diversity, sharing our unique cultures whenever we are together,” said Sister Debra Sciano, provincial leader for School Sisters of Notre Dame, Central Pacific Province. “In more recent years, we have shifted our focus to be intercultural, rather than multicultural, which is less focused on our differences and more about building relationships, and experiencing one another in a more personal way, with deeper communication and openness to be transformed and shaped by those encounters. Being intercultural and looking for ways to grow together in community is reflective of our mission to bring all together in that oneness for which Jesus Christ was sent to the world.”

The students served as volunteer counselors for local children who attended Camp Whole Kids—a day camp run by the ministry. The experience was so enthusiastically embraced by the high schoolers that it was offered again this year, and once again, every available volunteer spot was filled.

Then and now, the connection remains

August 5, 2026 – Throughout the year, the Resource Development Office for School Sisters of Notre Dame hosts Celebrate & Connect events as an opportunity for communities to reconnect with the sisters who have ministered in their schools and parishes. Earlier this summer, 20 SSND journeyed to Jefferson City, Missouri, to spend an afternoon catching up with former students and co-workers from their ministry days in the area as well as donors and other friends of SSND. Fueled by good food and good memories, the day included time not only to reminisce and recall the significant impact of the sisters, but also to reinvigorate connections both old and new.

An invitation into inspiration: The wood-carved works of Sister Mary Ann Osborne

July 1, 2026 – After 13 years as an elementary school teacher, a chance encounter at a woodcarver’s booth at a Festival of Nation’s event sparked a new interest for Sister Mary Ann Osborne. She purposefully pursued the technical skills needed for her craft, as well as sought guidance on how to successfully instill genuine feeling into each piece. Taking inspiration from the Gospel, nature, and her experience as a School Sister of Notre Dame (SSND), she estimates she has completed some 2,000 significant works of wood-carved sculptures and wall-hangings over the course of the last 40 years. This summer, approximately 20 of her pieces are being featured at a gallery exhibit titled, “Connecting with Source” in Madison, Wisconsin.
