Praying for the people of Nepal
We ask for prayers for the people in the country of Nepal following a devastating earthquake on April 25, 2015.

Update: April 25, 2015
We have heard from the four School Sisters of Notre Dame in the mountain village of Bandipur, and they are fine. The earthquake was close to the capital, not close to them. The homes of many of the poor were very damaged. We pray for the recovery and compassionate efforts of the global community to assist the country. We pray for the people of Nepal.

Three of the sisters are safe in Bandipur. Sister Miriam Therese Kanaya had just arrived by bus at the outskirts of Kathmandu when the quake occurred. She is safe but not sure when she will be able to return to Bandipur. For more details, we are sharing Sister Barbara Soete’s update. >MORE

Sister Miriam Therese Kanaya, who was in Kathmandu when the earthquake occurred, has returned safely to Bandipur. School for some of the children will resume on May 5, and this update from Sister Barbara Soete explains how they are adapting. >MORE

The Catholic Missourian published an article about the School Sisters of Notre Dame who serve in Nepal. The four sisters minister to 760 students at Notre Dame Higher Secondary School in Bandipur which is 90 miles west of Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital. >MORE

Sister Barbara Soete sent an update following the additional earthquake and tremors in Nepal on May 12 and 15. She tells how the students were evacuated from the school on May 12 and classes resumed the next day. Sister Barbara explains conditions in Kathmandu and across the country. She shares her concerns about the trafficking of children. She also thanks everyone for our prayers. >MORE
